Is integrity the most important trait of a leader?

I think so, and we don’t need to look far to see how leaders without integrity are perceived.

It’s not about whether you feel you have integrity it’s about whether others feel you demonstrate you do.

Integrity is about being honest, trustworthy, respectful and doing what’s right. It’s about taking responsibility for your own actions, setting a good example, and being reliable.

Integrity is something you build and have to work at keeping. If you want to improve your integrity here’s what you should be doing:

🔶 Build a good reputation - through being honest, responsible, reliable and respectful.

🔶 Be consistent - don’t say one thing but do another.

🔶 Do what is morally and ethically right - avoiding questionable practices.

🔶 Be a good role model - Don’t engage in negative behaviours, gossip or ignore policies you expect others to follow.

🔶 Take responsibility - for your actions and for your mistakes, don’t hide them or blame others.

🔶 Keep your promises - and recognize your limits, it’s better to say no than to let someone down.

🔶 Be open and honest - whether the news is good, or if there’s bad or controversial news to be shared. If you’re not, the team often find out, and that can destroy trust.

It’s what leaders with integrity do.
