10 benefits your practice or PCN should be getting from its management reporting.

Last week ended with a lovely bit of feedback and a reminder of the importance and power of management reporting.
It was from an ICB and to do with a CAIP project I’m supporting. Really it was about, and because of a reporting dashboard, I’d created. Apparently, it is “the Gold Standard”.
Every practice and PCN should have a system for management reporting. I’ve always ensured every business I’ve been leading has one, so I got every ounce of advantage from it. These are 10 benefits your practice or PCN should be getting from theirs:
1. Increases and improves communication throughout your practice or PCN.
2. Makes decision making easier and more informed.
3. Gives you more control and direction of your activities.
4. Improves productivity and quality.
5. Increases staff engagement and morale.
6. Alerts you early to risks and issues.
7. Improves learning and promotes continual improvement.
8. Makes it easier to engage external stakeholders.
9. Allows you to track performance against your plans and goals.
10. Reduces disagreements and conflicts.
Getting it right is a skill you can practice but here are a few things that will help:
📊 Your reports should tell a story with commentary connecting each part.
📊 Include the numbers and data that cover all your goals and key activities.
📊 Make sure it’s relevant and accurate.
📊 Use a mixture of text, tables, charts, colour and white space for visual appeal.
📊 Check it works on paper and a screen.
📊 Make it easy to read, you should first be able to scan through it.
📊 Share your report widely.
📊 Do your reporting consistently and regularly.
