Start well

Starting a new job is a huge deal so it’s normal to have some anxieties mixed with the excitement.

And with a big notice period then the gap between winning the job and starting can become a void that will only fuel anxieties. Instead of disappearing while you wait to start it’s better to build on the good impression you’ve made. It’s an opportunity to be proactive, using the time to build relationships and your knowledge for a smoother, happier start.

If you want a start that makes the best impact rather than walking into the unknown, then it will help to focus on these:

Remain connected.

Keep in contact with your future employer or manager and build the relationship and continue to convey your enthusiasm. Find out what you’ll need to know, what will your priorities be and what can you start thinking about.

Get to know the organisation.

Find out what it does and how it works and gain some insight into what the culture is like. It can also help to familiarise yourself with the competitors and the sector.

Connect with new colleagues.

Speak to them if its comfortable and appropriate. Use social media to form connections and introduce yourself to the team you’ll be working with.

When you’re starting a new job, make sure you start well.
